Stat of the Day

The annual healthcare premium for a family of four in 2023. Employers often cover the majority of this - but someone is still paying for it. Seems like we should make the most of this investment. (source)

Coming Soon: Your Personalized Longevity Advisor

This might be the most exciting news since we launched Thrive25 nearly two years ago.

From Day 1, we’ve been listening to you, our community - understanding what would make the biggest difference in optimizing your own health.

After all that listening…

We’re close to launching our brand new product that goes way beyond a newsletter: the Thrive25 Personalized Longevity Advisor.

So what is it?

We’ve seen too many companies push supplements or charge thousands for services we already pay for.

We’re delivering a platform that:

  1. Maximizes the value of your existing healthcare plan; AND

  2. Provides a personalized blueprint to achieve your health goals

All for less than the cost of a Netflix subscription.

Why this matters

  • The average family of four pays $6,000 annually for healthcare before stepping foot in a doctor’s office (your employer chips in another $16K!)

  • Despite this investment, 93% of us are metabolically unhealthy and at high risk of chronic diseases at the end of our life (but don’t know it)

  • 80% of our health is in our control through lifestyle and habit changes (epigenetics) - more impactful than any pill

  • We have the opportunity to thrive and live every day full of strength and energy

Our solution

We built something that takes advantage of the money you already spend on healthcare, targets your most important health risks, and delivers real ROI.

With Thrive25, you will:

  • Stay on top of preventive health: access all your preventive health appointments with a single app/calendar to keep chronic disease at bay

  • Be prepared for doctor visits: know what to ask your doctor and track notes from every appointment

  • Understand your lab results: view clear comparisons of your lab test results to normal (10th-90th percentile) and optimal ranges

  • Receive Personalized Quick Wins: get a blueprint of personalized Quick Wins based on your goals and lab test results

  • Have 24/7 access to health advice: enjoy a Personalized AI Advisor in your pocket ready to answer all your health & longevity questions

We’re empowering you to be the driver of your health - not just a passive passenger.

Measure

High-sensitivity C-Reactive Protein (hsCRP)

C-Reactive Protein is produced in the liver and plays a crucial role in our immune system by helping fight infections. Interestingly, CRP was first identified when fighting off pneumonia.

If you really want to know stuff - the “C” in CRP comes from the carbohydrate in the antigen of the pneumococcus capsule. Besides fighting infections, CRP also helps in clotting blood after a cut.

Since the body pumps out more CRP during infection it’s become the top biomarker to measure inflammation. Elevated CRP levels - when you aren’t sick or injured - indicate chronic inflammation in the body and something isn’t right.

Chronic inflammation is strongly linked to most chronic diseases - especially cardiovascular disease. In fact, some doctors think this is a stronger indicator of future heart risk than typical factors like LDL-cholesterol.

Plus, according to strength expert, Dr. Gabrielle Lyon, inflammation hinders muscle building, impairs recovery, and negatively affects metabolic health.

At its core, inflammation accelerates aging and is a strong predictor of mortality.

Just like stress - acute, short-term inflammation is beneficial, but chronic inflammation is harmful and can be deadly.

What’s My Score

It’s important to track your hsCRP number every year - especially as you approach and pass your 40th birthday. For both men and women it should be a part of your standard blood panel.

But as we talked about above with our new platform - it’s up to you to confirm this biomarker is tested and to understand the results:

  • High Risk: Over 3 mg/L

  • Moderate Risk: 1-3 mg/L

  • “Lower” Risk: Under 1 mg/L

  • Optimal Range: Under 0.5 mg/L

Most studies suggest you’re fine if your hsCRP is under 1 mg/L. But a study of 30,000 people cited in Good Energy showed that even levels between 0.64-1 mg/L were 2.6x more likely for a cardiovascular disease problem. The lower the better!

Test Procedure

Nothing to prep - just make sure you aren’t currently sick or have an active injury when taking the test, as these will impact the results.

And make sure it’s included in your blood panel!

What You Can Do

Whether you have an optimal result or just want to improve your CRP levels, here are two key things to focus on:

  1. Sleep: aim for 7-8 hours of quality sleep per night. Studies show that even a couple nights with only 5.5 hours of sleep can significantly increase inflammation

  2. Finish eating early: again, the #1 key is getting quality sleep and giving your body a chance to relax. Not eating 3 hours before bed is shown to increase sleep quality and lower CRP (see our full Sleep Routine for more ideas)

BONUS: according to Dr. David Perlmutter, eating Bing Cherries lowers CRP levels. Now I don’t think that cherries alone will be a game-changer, but they’re delicious and it’s that time of year - so add some to your grocery cart for the next 1-2 months while they’re in season!

H&L in the News

The Power of Mollusks: The purple track in the Stade de France has a secret ingredient - mollusks. Two Italian companies created a sustainable supply chain to create a high-performance track using recycled Mediterranean mollusk shells. Noah Lyles isn’t complaining. (WIRED)

Technology & Mental Health: In an age where screens reign supreme, digital has supplanted most communication. While there are many benefits, teenagers experience negative impacts with limitless information and entertainment online. (Source)

The End of Mosquito Season?: Scientists engineered human skin bacteria to repel mosquitoes, reducing attraction by 64.4% and lasting over a week. This breakthrough offers a non-toxic, long-lasting alternative to traditional repellents like DEET. Much needed in FL right now!! (Source)
